Standard Bank Namibia Serves Hope with Record-Breaking Padel Fundraiser

Standard Bank Namibia’s Corporate and Investment Banking team hosted its annual Padel for Purpose fundraiser, raising a record-breaking profit in support of the Buy-a-Brick initiative. With 89 teams participating - 79 in padel and 10 in in soccer - the event marked a new high in community engagement and impact.

Held at LivPadel, the event brought together clients, employees, and members of the public for a day of sport, camaraderie, and charity. The funds raised will directly support the construction of homes for low-income families, reinforcing Standard Bank’s commitment to inclusive development.

“This initiative is a powerful example of how we, as Corporate and Investment Banking, can go beyond deals, transactions and banking to build real partnerships that uplift communities. Padel for Purpose is not just about sport - it’s about aligning our business with purpose and using our networks to drive meaningful change. As we celebrate 110 years of empowering Namibians, we are proud to stand alongside our clients and partners in building a Namibia where everyone has a place to call home”, said Nelson Lucas, Head: Corporate and Investment Banking, Standard Bank.

Launched in 2015, the Buy-a-Brick initiative is a flagship CSI programme that partners with the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia to provide affordable housing to low-income families. By mobilizing corporate and community support, the initiative is helping to close the housing gap, promote dignity, and stimulate local economies - one brick at a time.

This year’s success was made possible through the generous support of sponsors including, Vivo Energy Namibia, Shoprite, Checkers, Champion Boerewors, Innova Investments CC, Karin van der Merwe, Precious Pearl Health and Skincare, Meraki Wellness Centre, and Standard Bank Card Acquiring Services , as well as LivPadel, and all the team entries, without which there would not have been an event.

We congratulate the winning padel teams, EY Namibia, MTC Maris and Namibia Airports Company, in the Advanced, Intermediate and Beginner categories, respectively. While the Standard Bank CIB team took home the win in soccer.
