Standard Bank and Ninety One Building a Brighter Future Brick by Brick
Ninety One last week made a very generous donation of N$ 300 000.00 as a part of their CSI contribution towards Buy-a-Brick, the flagship initiative by Standard Bank Namibia. The value of this donation will build six homes, three of which were handed over as part of 21 homes at an official ceremony in Rupara last week.
The Buy-A-Brick Initiative, the flagship Corporate Social Investment (CSI) project by Standard Bank in partnership with the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia, has been committed to eliminating shacks and provide decent housing for the people of Namibia since its inception in 2015. To date, the project has raised an impressive N$25 million Namibian dollars, a testament to the collective generosity and compassion of the Namibian corporate community.
Speaking at the handover, Eino Emvula, Managing Director of Ninety One, commended the Shack Dwellers Federation for their capacity building and instilling their members with the skills to build their own homes as well as other necessary skills to empower themselves financially. “We are honoured to align ourselves with the Shack Dwellers Federation in helping fellow Namibians acquire houses through our Corporate Social Responsibility programme.” He shared that their hope is that this is not just a monetary contribution, but the construction of dreams, aspirations, and opportunities, sowing the seeds that will yield a harvest of progress and prosperity for generations to come. He called for us to continue to advocate for affordable housing, raise awareness, and inspire others to join in on this cause.
These funds have not only built homes, but also nurtured a stronger sense of unity and equality in Namibia. "All human beings, regardless of their socio-economic status, deserve equality and access," states Magreth Mengo, Standard Banks’ Head of Marketing, Brand and CSI. “This vision is shared by our dedicated partner, Ninety One. We believe that corporate success is directly linked to the well-being and progress of the Namibian people”.
