Standard Bank Namibia Upgrades Digital Lending to Drive Responsible Inclusion
Standard Bank Namibia has announced major enhancements to its Digital Personal Loan Service, reinforcing its commitment to responsible lending and inclusive financial access. The upgraded platform enables clients to apply for and top up loans instantly via Internet Banking or Cellphone Banking (USSD short code: Dial *140*2345#), eliminating the need for paperwork, branch visits, or even internet access.
These improvements directly support the national call for urgent reforms to address financial exclusion, particularly in rural and underserved communities. As highlighted by government leadership, many Namibians still lack access to essential financial services - a challenge Standard Bank is actively addressing through its digital innovation strategy.
“Our enhanced Digital Lending platform is designed to empower clients with secure, transparent, and scalable financial tools that support long-term financial health,” said Burger Smit, Head, Digital & eCommerce at Standard Bank Namibia. “This is responsible lending in action - ensuring that clients borrow within their means, with clear repayment structures and access to financial guidance.”
Unlike short-term microloan platforms, which offer limited loan amounts with short repayment cycles, Standard Bank’s Digital Lending Service is built on sound banking principles. Clients receive pre-approved loan offers based on their credit profiles, with structured monthly repayment plans and secure, encrypted transactions.
Key features of the enhanced service include:
- Pre-approved loan offers visible on Internet Banking dashboards.
- Top-up functionality for existing personal loans.
- No paperwork, no queues, and no data required for cellphone banking.
- Secure transactions with One-Time Pin verification.
- Instant disbursement into current accounts.
“Standard Bank Namibia remains committed to championing growth and supporting national development through innovative, client-centric solutions that empower all Namibians, urban and rural alike”, Smit added.
