Standard Bank Namibia moving in the Green Direction
Standard Bank Namibia has proudly joined the Namibian Pavilion at COP27. The Conference of Parties (COP27) is the 27th annual climate change conference hosted by the United Nations. It is taking place in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt from 6 – 18 November 2022.
Representing the bank is Chief Executive Mercia Geises, Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, Nelson Lucas and Head Treasury & Capital Management, Danie Rourke. Driving the growth of Namibia means being present in spaces that push the agenda of preserving our resources to make sure we take care of the planet in order for both businesses and future generations to have a space to thrive in, in the future.
Standard Bank’s sustainable finance journey started this year with our first Green Bond issuance and the milestone Green Loan to NPI. The presence of our delegation is to increase the expertise of Standard Bank within the Renewable Energy industry and give us the relevant knowledge needed to be successful in this field. It also exposes us to networking opportunities which could reap foreign investment.
The world as a whole is moving in a Green Direction, and it is important for us to be ahead of the curve in this industry in our Namibian context. This industry shows great potential for return on investment in the future, both financially and socially.
