Standard Bank and NIFA Equip MSMEs for Trade Competitiveness

Standard Bank Namibia, in partnership with the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy (NIFA), successfully hosted the Market Access & Trade Opportunity Evening on 13 November 2025 at the Hilton Hotel in Windhoek. The event convened entrepreneurs, MSMEs, trade experts, and policymakers for an interactive dialogue on unlocking regional and continental trade opportunities.

The evening formed part of the Standard Bank Blue Growth Series, a flagship initiative aimed at driving SME growth, financial inclusion, and sustainable entrepreneurship in Namibia. Attendees gained insights into trade finance solutions, logistics, and strategies for accessing new markets across borders.
Helena Amupolo, Head of Commercial & Business Banking at Standard Bank Namibia, emphasized the bank’s commitment to driving Namibia’s growth.

“This evening is a celebration of purpose in action. At Standard Bank, we live our purpose: ‘Namibia is our home; we drive her growth.’ That means going beyond banking to support the backbone of our economy- our entrepreneurs and MSMEs - by providing not only financial solutions, but also the knowledge, networks, and exposure that help businesses grow sustainably,” she said.

Amupolo highlighted that through the Blue Growth Series, in partnership with NIFA, targeted support has already helped emerging businesses formalise, access markets, and create jobs. “Whether you are an informal trader importing goods, a manufacturer ready to export, or an entrepreneur building your first brand—this platform is for you,” she added.

Ms. Ndiitah Nghipondoka-Robiati, Executive Director at the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, reinforced government’s commitment to empowering Namibian enterprises to participate meaningfully in regional and international trade. She stressed that strong local presence is key to global competitiveness and highlighted the role of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in creating opportunities for Namibian businesses to expand beyond borders.

The event also featured expert discussions on import and export dynamics, trade finance solutions, and practical strategies for navigating regulatory requirements. A networking session provided entrepreneurs with the opportunity to connect with investors, trade facilitators, and key stakeholders, fostering partnerships that can translate conversations into real opportunities.

Through this collaboration, Standard Bank and NIFA reaffirm their shared commitment to enabling inclusive growth and ensuring Namibian entrepreneurs are well-positioned to participate meaningfully in regional and global trade.
