Graduates development Programme

Overview of the Programme

Under the auspices of our Learning and Development team, Standard Bank is introducing a Universal Graduate Programme aimed to create high potential candidates, who will fulfil future leadership positions.

Our graduate programme is designed to give a solid foundation and understanding of the functions within the bank. This will be achieved by rotations through assigned functions; Graduates will get to know our particular functions better as they experience rotations within these functions.

Graduates will rotate in the following functions:

1. Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB)

CIB will offer graduates opportunities in four different channels. On-the-job experience in these areas entails functional rotations over a 12 months period. The objective is to give competencies and insights into the CIB operations, supported by formal training and progress checks, towards becoming professional Bankers.

  • Investment Banking
  • Global Markets
  • Transactional Products and Services
  • Client Coverage
  • CIB Credit

2. Personal and Business Banking (PBB) and Enabling Functions

  • Information Technology
  • Business Banking
  • PBB Credit
  • Risk and Compliance
  • Finance

Over a period of 1 year, multiple role rotations will be completed to give a broad commercial experience including customer engagement. Formal learning and progress checks are involved.

Graduate Contract and Terms

Graduates will be hired on a permanent basis from the outset. They will be recruited in line with the strategic workforce plans, to allow for placement of graduates to be planned for in advance.

Performance Management

It is a condition of this Programme that the candidate completes and be deemed competent on the Bank Role Based Curricula during their first rotations of the programme in order for them to continue for the remainder of the programme.  

Who should apply?
Graduates from a wide range of degree disciplines, these include degree in commerce, finance, banking, science, engineering, information technology and property studies.

Bursary scheme

Standard Bank will offer bursaries to students to study degrees as specified in the bursary policy. Bursaries will be awarded to successful students for the duration of study and be renewed on an annual basis, depending on the successful completion of academic programme. Bursary holders will be required to work for the bank for a specified period of time.

2017 bursaries will be available to students to pursue their studies at accredited institutions in the following fields:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Commerce
  • Science
  • Finance
  • Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Property Studies

  • Certified copy of mid-year examination results
  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of grade 12 certificate
  • Proof of Namibian citizenship
  • Proof of University admission
