The trustees of the Standard Bank Foundation comprise six members of the Board of Directors of Standard Bank.
Dr Libertina Amathila also accepted her appointment as the patron of the Standard Bank Foundation. She is well known in Namibia for her ardent support and lobbying of many previously disadvantaged communities in Namibia and has been fighting on their behalf for many years. She has a passion for the social wellbeing and upliftment of all and will take the Foundation to new heights.
The trustees are Managing Director Theo Mberirua, Deputy Managing Director Grant Marais, Benny Zaaruka (chairman of the Board of Trustees), Dr. Ndapewa Hamunime, Mr. James Chapman, Mr. Fanie Smith and Carin de Klerk, Head of Marketing, Standard Bank.
Standard Bank owes its existence to the people and societies within which it operates.
We believe in acting as a non–exploitative and socially responsible bank through both our core business practices and the support of community programmes aimed at the betterment of the societies within which we operate. We are therefore committed, not only to the promotion of economic development, but also to the strengthening of civil society and human well–being.
Standard Bank Namibia concentrates its social investment expenditure in defined focus areas in order to make the greatest impact. These areas of focus are subject to annual revision as the countries socio-economic needs change.

Education
Education has always been a priority for Standard Bank as the bank believes that an educated nation is a nation that will be able to work and ultimately feed themselves and their families. Employment and an income will contribute towards the eradication of many social ills such as abuse, crime and the like, which have been proven to have a direct effect of unemployment. Education will remain our top priority for many years to come.

Inspiration lives in Africa
This exciting campaign ran from 21 November 2005 to 31 January 2006. Winners were announced on 29 March 2006.
This campaign called on all Namibians to nominate social investment projects, which are worthy of being selected for future support by adhering to specific criteria.
Together with our media partners (NBC Radio, The Namibian newspaper and The Big Issue), Standard Bank encouraged people to nominate inspirational projects.
From the nominations received, selected projects received radio and newspaper coverage and at the end of the campaign, Standard Bank formally recognised four projects Standard Bank made a cash donation of N$ 50 000 to these four selected projects in order to assist them to continue their remarkable work.
A committee consisting of our staff , the advertising agency Ogilvy, The Namibian newspaper and Dr. Libertine Amathila, Deputy Prime Minister of Namibia, selected the winners.
The committees looked at each project and evaluated it based on the following questions:
- Does it show the inventiveness and creativity that is characteristic of the people of our country and continent?
- Does it demonstrate that the determined human spirit conquers adversity?
- Does it reflect that our people take charge of their own destinies in pursuit of a better future?
- Does it make a positive and sustainable difference to our people?
